Those of us who plan and conduct the weekly video worship services — and those who participate in those services at a distance — owe a big debt of gratitude to Linda Harding. Last March, when we first realized it would not be safe or healthy for us to gather in the sanctuary each Sunday, we turned to the video medium as a way of continuing to worship together in spirit but physically apart.
We certainly did not realize then how long we would need to worship at a distance. For the first two or three Sundays, Becky Portwood devoted much time and effort to getting us started by shooting videos and preparing them for distribution, and we greatly appreciated her help.
Eventually we grasped that we might have to operate in this mode for several months. That’s when we turned to Linda Harding and worked out an arrangement for her to shoot and edit each week’s video service for online access. Even then we did not fully realize that we might be doing things this way into September and October – and beyond!
Linda, a talented professional video producer, has applied her extensive experience, skill, and creativity to the task. Linda devotes many talents to her work and takes care of things that those of us without her eye for visual detail don’t see or even think about. While those participating in the service concentrate on our particular areas – basically, the words and music – Linda sees the big picture and knows how to recreate the worship service in a way that will be meaningful and engaging for viewers. She adds special touches that the rest of us would not have even thought about.
Many churches in these challenging times are offering their worship services online, but few if any are so fortunate as to have the talents of a Linda Harding. We thank you sincerely, Linda, for your service.
