For those wishing to know more about our Taizé services …
From September through May each year, our church offers a unique evening prayer service based on a concept that originated in the 1940s at a monastery in Taizé, France.
Beginning at 6 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month through fall and winter, the Taizé (pronounced Teh-zay) services are untraditional in that there is no sermon or minister to lead the hour-long gatherings. Music provides the structure for the candlelit worship. Along the way, participants share in prayer, Scripture readings, and an extended period of silent meditation.
Our Taizé services were organized in 2008. Those who attend find the services a wonderful complement to Nacoochee Presbyterian’s worship ministry … and a beautiful tradition at our church.
Simple songs based on Scripture
The Taizé songs are simple, beautiful melodies, repeating lines from the Psalms and other passages from Scripture in English, Latin, Spanish or German. English text is always shown, and singers may choose whichever language they are most comfortable with.
The services are complemented by a beautiful prelude of harp music provided by Mary Raymer on her Celtic harp. The prelude provides a wonderful transition into worship.
As the music surrounds you in the candlelit sanctuary, it is a wonderful experience to feel the Holy Spirit draw nearer.
Next Taizé service at NPC: Sunday, March 15th, 2023
Time: Harp Prelude 5:30 p.m., Service 6-7 p.m.
