This election cycle Sebastian Herrera, NPC member and UGA Senior, became involved with an organization called Students for Justice. Students for Justice is a non-partisan subsidiary of the Center for Common Ground. The purpose of Students for Justice is to encourage voter registration in underrepresented communities. Sebastian is involved as a political organizer, and as a part of that role he creates social media posts, phone banks, and writes postcards. An important aspect of his job is organizing volunteers, and he is asking for our help.
Sebastian’s message:
When I applied to Students For Justice, I referenced Nacoochee Pres as a large inspiration for my hunger to help encourage those who may feel they do not have a voice. I mentioned this impact to my Internship mentor, and she asked why I had not reached out to the congregation to see if they would want to become involved with our post carding. This mid-term election is one of the most impactful that our state has seen in a long time, so if you would like to make your mark post carding could be a great low-stress and high-impact way.

For those of you that may be interested in getting involved, the process for post carding is very simple. Next Sunday, October 9th, I will be handing out post carding kits after service. The kits will include pre-addressed postcards, a script, and stickers with important information. Over the following week, you would take the postcards home and complete the amount you received. Then, Sunday October 16th, you would return the post cards to Jennifer Herrera after service to be stamped and sent out. October 19th, I will take the completed postcards to the post office and send a picture of all our postcards being sent!
If you are interested or have any questions. Please email me at s.c.herrera.long@gmail.com or text me at 404-803-5197. For those of you that would like to participate, go ahead and contact me with your name and how many postcards you would like to fill out. I currently only have 250 or so left that are not completed, but if there is a high demand I can get sent some more to complete. Again, PLEASE reach out with any questions at S.c.herrera.long@gmail.com or at 404-803-5197.
