On March 10, 2019, Codi Norred of Georgia Interfaith Power and Light (GIPL) presented an Energy Efficiency Matching Grant of $2,083 to Nacoochee Presbyterian Church during the 11:00 am worship service.
Under its Power Wise Program, GIPL had completed an energy audit for the church in January 2018 and recommended increasing the amount of insulation in the sanctuary attic, changing to LED lights in Fellowship Hall, and using LED lighting exclusively in the new addition and parking lot to reduce our energy use. The total cost of these improvements was $4,166. The grant will cover half of this cost.
Codi spoke briefly about the energy conservation and environmental justice work that GIPL does with communities of faith throughout Georgia, helping them put into practice their calling to care for creation. Following the service he met with the our Earth Ministry Committee to learn about the committee’s other current projects and to suggest ways GIPL can support those projects. We are grateful for the guidance and support offered by GIPL and the resulting connection we feel to other communities of faith as we all work to care for God’s creation.
