The April meeting of the NPC Book Club featured the beloved title, The Egg and I, by Betty MacDonald. Nancy Sievert served most effectively as the reviewer and offered firsthand observations about the setting of the story on the Olympic Peninsula in the State of Washington.
First published by the J. B. Lippincott Company in 1945, The Egg and I has withstood the test of time among readers. It provides accounts of the heartwarming and uproarious adventures of a city girl who began married life on a small chicken farm in the Northwest. That “city girl” was the author, Betty McDonald. Even with all the trials and pitfalls the MacDonald family faced, it never lost its sense of humor.
The next Book Club meeting will be Monday, May 13, at 2 pm in Fellowship Hall. The book to be reviewed is The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields. Pat Warbingdon will be the discussion leader. Everyone is welcome at Book Club meetings. Contact Delene Lee for more information: delenelee2014@gmail.com.
