Something new we are starting for 5th Sunday potlucks is having a sign up for extra helpers! We appreciate your volunteer time and we will make sure you have time to eat. Since our most recent 5th Sunday has come and gone, you may be interested in some of the jobs that are available the next time. A few of the main ones are detailed below:
Set up.
Set up means setting up the fellowship hall with tables and chairs, tablecloths, table decorations, set out salt and pepper shakers on the tables, put out cups, plates and glasses on the counter. We ask for a few volunteers here as some have a knack for tables and chairs and others are more comfortable with the other items.
Receive food
As food comes in Sunday morning you may need to transfer food to a basket or a platter and set on the main table or simply guide people where their item goes. Add tongs or a spoon and be available to help the next person who comes in.
Clean up
You are cleaning up afterwards. Five tables and chairs stay out in the fellowship and all others get put away. Put away food, freeze food in ziplock bags, send food home, put food away in the refrigerator, wash dishes, dry and put away, put away salt and pepper shakers, wipe down counters, clean out coffee makers. You are not alone in the kitchen. There are many busy hands here.
Sweeper
You just sweep once most of the tables and chairs are put away.
Taking out the trash
You need to empty all the trash cans near the kitchen and in the kitchen. Add new bags. Take the trash out to the trash cans. Once all done with that the trash can needs to go out to the sidewalk.
