A compassionate and caring man of God; as well as a humanitarian beyond compare, Frank will be deeply missed. Even in my foolishness he never judged: but knew, with his great wisdom, and gently allowed it to be part of my path.

Not like most missionaries coming from the West trying to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Indonesia. Instead, Frank opened our eyes to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ had been at work in Indonesia. He dedicated his life to make the churches in Indonesia A Growing Seed. He is indeed the true disciple of his mentor, H. Richard Niebuhr. Selamat Jalan, Frank.

When I first went to Indonesia in 1989 and was learning about the lives of Christians there, a certain name kept coming up everywhere I went: "Frank Cooley says..." "Frank Cooley told us..." "Frank Cooley helped us..." "Frank Cooley taught us..." and so on. It turns out that this man, who Indonesians perceived of as a saint, had done massive research on the history of the Christian Church in Indonesia. His legacy lives on until today, not only in the many books he wrote but in the lives he changed with his intelligence, commitment and witness to the love of Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God for the amazing ministry of "Pak" Frank Cooley, whose name is legend to the people of Indonesia.

My dear friend and partner. I am so glad you are now at peace without pain. You brought much joy into my life and some challenges I didn't expect. I love you dearly and will continue to feel your presence along with God's as I try to improve my conscious contact with God as I understand God. You helped me and my friends and family improve our concept of God and the part "play" has in our spiritual life. Love to you, Carolyn

Carolyn, it was truly an honor to partiipate in Frank's service yesterday. His beautiful, twinkling blue eyes spoke to me of God's eternity, and his spirit inspired me to love and show concern for others - as he did for me. I share always treasure him as I treasure you.

Carolyn, Frank was a wonderful witness to all that was good and beautiful in this earthly life, a foreshadowing of the divine. I, along with everyone whose lives he touched, will always remember that to which he pointed--a God whose love surpasses all understanding. May God guide, bless, and give you peace.

Please know Carolyn that I am grateful for all you have shared with my father. Also to all his friends in Georgia that have supported him in person and in spirit, may the God of your understanding carry you in challenging times as Dads did for him. I will be there tomorrow in spirit if not in person.

In my life there have been few people who have blessed me so richly with their friendship as Frank Cooley. I grieve his passing but know that he is in the company of my Maker. Frank was a scholar and my mentor in theology. We shared countless hours together discussing books related to theology and also our personal stories about our lives and life. When he left Statesboro to live in Tiger, he left a void in my life. I loved Frank and I miss him

I met Frank through Carolyn and remember their commitment to Christ and their contentment in Christ. When I would attend the Southeast Faith At Work Conferences at St Simons Island, I would look for their motor home and let out a cheer when seeing it because it had safely brought them for the weekend and gatherings were always better with them around. We'll miss you!

His efforts were always toward peace between societies not at peace wih each other. Thank you for that! I admire your fortitude in these last days. Carry on ! Adele Kushner

cCarolyn and family, I have many fond memories of Frank. He was a kind and gentle soul. We had such fun in the early days of your marriage. I remember Frank's stirfry and tofu. He had to put up with a lot . Some of us were a real mess(guess who) back in those days. I'm sure yours and Frank's prayers and patience helped to carry me through. Thank you both for loving me when I couldn't love myself. God Bless, Diana

Carolyn... memories of the snow retreat with Frank... allowing clowning to take place even as folk put on their clown makeup and went skiing... Frank loved their ardor and their willingness to be "foolish" for Christ's sake! May that wrap you both now share bring comfort, not just in it's natural warmth, but in the knowledge that every every minute when it was being knitted, prayers were layered in... so call upon them now and be strengthened in the Spirit. Carolyn, I will always remember meeting you and Frank a little over two years ago. I also recall fondly one Sunday when Frank and, I believe, Hal Symes were sitting in the pews after church as I was playing around on the piano. I played a few hymns, and turned around and noticed them sitting there listening. They urged me to keep playing. One of my fondest recollections, though, is greeting Frank with, "It's good to see you!" and he'd reply, "It's good to be seen!" May Peace be with you and your family, including your sweet little dog. We will certainly miss him!

Frank was a brilliant man with a vision for the world where people are generous beyond differences of nationality, religion, race, sexual orientation, .... He was ahead of his time working toward Christian and Muslim understanding from the late 1950s. Frank loved northeast GA where he and Carolyn came to retire in 1997. There were hardships, failures, setbacks in his 90 years; yet, his dream for a world of mutual respect and love is worthy of our full embrace. Thanks be to God for Frank L. Cooley!
